Application Process

The application procedure for admission in a prestigious foreign university differs from country to country. Applicants are required to fill the application carefully and with correct information. The education systems in different countries vary; hence the language on the application form should be read carefully before form filling. Students must get the completed form proof read prior to final submission so that there is no room for error. The Application process for Universities in USA:

Universities in USA give more weightage on the application of each candidate. They have a step-wise procedure, since they not only want the academic transcripts but also demand for an intent letters and references through which each candidate needs to introduce themselves.

SOP: The Statement of Purpose is the most important component of your application. The reason for which you are pursuing this higher studies and particularly in that university should be mentioned in this section. The SOP plays a major role in successful selection. To make your application more competitive and eligible for MS courses in USA you need to present the best SOP. While writing an SOP , the most important thing to be noted is that it should be brief and clearly state your expectations from the program and you should follow the ford limit as set by the university or the department you are applying for.

LOR: LOR is the Letter of Recommendation gives university an idea about the student’s personality from the perspective of a person who has observed the student’s accomplishments and had known that candidate for a long time. It is recommending that this candidate is eligible for pursuing the studies. An impressive LOR helps the student and his chance of getting selected becomes higher. So, LOR is important for your application profile to stand out as a balanced one. Most of the universities in USA requires 2-3 recommendations.

Academic transcripts: Academic transcripts will include all the qualifications that a student will be listing in the application form. One should start arranging transcripts from October itself.

Scores: The test scores for the mandatory entry level tests that are conducted by each University’s consultancy are also required to be sent along with the application.

Application Process for Universities in Australia:

Inquiries regarding application must be sent at least 12-15 months before the proposed date of admission. You can obtain the application forms through the following ways:

Via email: Request application forms from the universities website. Universities usually have a form on their website through which you can request application material.

Downloading from the university website: Most of the University’s website provides downloadable and ready to print versions of their application forms. You can use these just as regular forms.

Getting applications from University Representatives: You can also obtain the application forms from various authorized representatives of Australian Universities in India.

Application Requirements

  • Secondary and higher secondary report or certificate along with the transcripts (mark sheets or report cards) of the final exams. It is ideal to convert the marks obtained in accordance with Australia's grading system.
  • IELTS and GMAT exam scorecard (in case the student is applying for an MBA course) must be provided. The minimum scores in IELTS and GMAT exam may vary from education provider to provider. Refer to the particular university website to see the eligibility requirements for the course.
  • If you are applying for an MBA degree or a degree in higher education like doctoral programs; you may be required to provide work experience certificates or letters, mentioning the complete work details: key responsibilities and positions held. A detailed CV is also mandatory.
  • A statement of purpose(SOP) or personal essay mentioning career goals, interests, extracurricular activities, and why the student has chosen the particular stream and how he/she will manage financially during the stay in Australia needs to be provided.
  • Letter of recommendation (LOR) (two recommended) from the person who has taught the student or knows him/her professionally, highlighting the strengths weaknesses of the student and why he/she would excel in the chosen field, also needs to be provided.

It is imperative to follow the deadlines. Once you have chosen the universities of your interest, check the deadlines for the course you want to go for. It is also necessary to note that the deadline for all programs is usually not same and you have to check the deadlines from the individual department’s websites. E.g. application procedure generally starts from the month of September and ends by December or January.   • Academic Transcripts for the qualifications listed in the application form.
  • GRE/TOEFL/GMAT/IELTS score proofs besides reporting the test scores officially.
  • Recommendation letters ( minimum 2-3 lectures)
  • SOP
  • Photo Copies of your passport
  • Work experience certificates, if applicable
  • Certificates for extra-curricular activities mentioned in the application form.
  • WES Evaluation documents, if required by the University.

Financial Documents:

  • To assess the financial capability of the applicant.
  • These documents are required by the universities for issuing the I20.
  • Universities ask applicants to show amounts equivalent to 1 year’s tuition fees and living expenses


  • After applying to the shortlisted universities along with submitting the relevant documents and other application requirements; you can now wait as it usually takes a week's time to get a reply from the university. Meanwhile, you can go through the visa requirements by visiting the local Government (for which country you have applied for) office for details or by checking that country’s Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship's official website. During this time, you can also make necessary arrangements to pay the course fee and support your living expenses during your stay in that country.
  • As soon as you receive an Electronic Confirmation of Enrollment (eCoE) from a particular university/institution, you can proceed to the visa application process.
